I'll Hold Your Hand
Autumn had always been Fai’s favorite time of year, it brought families together whether it be around a bonfire out back or the park for a day of kite racing in suburbia. The smell was the other thing that got to him, the smell of burning wood that he associated with the cold months of the year. It wasn’t so cold he needed a heavy jacket but it wasn’t so warm he could go without. It was a season surrounded by warmth for him, the warmth of family. A family that had always been the most important to him, but now there was him: Kurogane. He was the most important and that’s why they were here standing outside his house as the autumn breeze flicked his blue and white plaid scarf in the wind.
“You look nervous,” came the gruff voice from beside him. “You know, you don’t have to do this if you aren’t ready.”
“I am ready!” Fai shot back in mild irritation. Just because he was nervous didn’t mean he wasn’t ready. The blond sighed heavily and his breath turned white before him, “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have snapped. I’m just a little apprehensive, that’s all.”
“What for?”
“What do you mean?”
Kurogane cleared his throat, “For what reason are you apprehensive?”
Fai brought his ungloved hands out of his pockets, maybe it was late enough in the fall he should start wearing them, and he blew hot air into his cupped hands, “What if,” he paused trying to stop the worry in his voice from taking over, “What if they don’t accept me?”
The movement was swift as Kurogane pulled Fai in to a tight hug against his thick, rough corduroy jacket. He kissed the blond’s head the smoothed his hair gently as he felt Fai grip the front of his outerwear. He pulled back and titled Fai’s chin so their eyes could meet before descending upon him and giving him a light, chaste kiss. “It won’t matter,” he said running his thumb over pink lips.
“How can you be so certain? You’ve already done this before and your parents are much more accepting than mine. You did it in high school, I went away to college and instead of coming back with a girl like they expect I came back with a man!” Fai gushed and secretly hoped his little sister wasn’t watching from the window.
Kurogane turned to face the green door that fronted the house. He took Fai’s hand in his and tried not to flinch when the grip wasn’t returned. “It won’t matter because we have each other.”
Fai’s heart warmed him from the inside out and all apprehension was thrown out the window. This was why he was doing it because he now lived for the moments where Kurogane said things that made his heart stop. He returned Kurogane’s grip. “I love you Kuro-sama. Will you hold my hand the entire time?”
Kurogane smirked to himself, “I’ll hold it as long as you need me to.”
The blond smiled and with renewed reason and vigor took a giant step towards the door, “Onward! - Kuro-sama!”
The other didn’t move at first causing Fai to look back at him with a puzzled face. He saw that Kurogane was blushing ever so slightly though it could have just been the cold. “Fai?”
“Yeah, Kuro-sama?”
Kurogane quickly relaced their fingers, “I love you, too.”
With that the approached the green door and knocked. The door was answered and they were still holding hands.
